Play Therapy

Children use Play as a way of communicating and expressing their conscious and unconscious emotional states in relation to themselves and the way they experience their world. For children, toys are often used as their words and play can be seen as their language.

All Play Therapy differs from regular play in that the therapist helps children systematically address and resolve their own problems. Since play is fun, it makes it easier for children to confront what is bothering them.

Play allows them a safe psychological distance from their problems and allows them to express their true thoughts and feelings in ways best suited to their developmental level.

Once children have expressed and addressed their problems through play, the therapist will be better able to help them find solutions to the challenges that they are facing.

Psychotherapy (Adolescents & Young Adult)

Psychotherapy aims to improve an individual’s well-being and mental health, to resolve or mitigate troublesome behaviours, beliefs, compulsions, thoughts, or emotions, and to improve relationships and social skills.

My current areas of interest are anxiety-based disorders, depression, adjustment difficulties, as well as emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Psychoeducational assessment

Have you noticed your child struggling with reading or writing? Or, has their teacher mentioned they’re falling behind their peers? Learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety, or depression often stay hidden and impact a child’s academic performance and behaviour both in and outside of the classroom.

A psychoeducational assessment could assist with understanding your child’s difficulties so that they can get the support they may need to achieve to their full potential.

Subject Choice assessment

In their Grade 9 year of schooling, your child will need to decide what subjects they will take through from Grade 10 to 12. They will be required to take at least seven subjects. Four of these have to be English, a second South African language, life orientation and either mathematics or mathematical literacy.

The remaining three subjects are selected from 29 options ranging from accounting, science and art to business economics, computer technology and tourism. This is an important decision as it will affect their subject and career options after Matric.

A subject choice assessment will explore your child’s aptitude, personality style and career interest to assist them in making a more informed decision.

Career Assessment

The career assessment process involves a series of objective psychological tests that look mainly at a person’s aptitude, personality, career interests, and values.

These assessments enable clients to explore their academic potential, personality style, and interests in order to facilitate a promising and fulfilling career journey. During this process, clients will participate in an intake and feedback session as well as a computerized career assessment battery.

The main goal of a career assessment is to help clients understand themselves and the world of work better in order to make informed career decisions.
